A New Collection of John Wesley Sermons Edited by Kenneth J. Collins and Jason Vickers

A new and engaging collection of sermons that embrace the historic 44 sermons that John Wesley approved, plus 8 more of the North American collection (52 sermons) and to this is added 8 sermons, carefully chosen, to fill things out for contemporary interests resulting in a grand total of sixty sermons. Each sermon (which employs the text from the Bicentennial edition of Wesley's works) is preceded by a brief introduction and an outline. The sermons are arranged in accordance with the order of salvation displayed in the key sermon, "The Scripture Way of Salvation," from creation to the fall through justification and every step along the way culminating in the new creation. The purpose of this collection is to foster vital Christian formation for all of its readers.

The message is clear from the Holy Spirit.

God is doing an end times work to gather His bride for His glory. The warnings are many in the end times of false gospels, losing the love of God in our hearts yet the hope is much greater of the soon coming of the Lord. We must be watching and preparing for what is to come upon the earth. God is desiring to make His people ready so they can be a life-giving stream to the world of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Do consider to have your church fellowships or house church join us for this year's free Simulcast Conference brought to you by Sermonindex.net. "A Hero of Faith and Prayer or Life of Rev. Martin Wells Knapp" by A.M. Hills

Here is the biography that A.M. Hills wrote about the life of Martin Wells Knapp after his death. It was published in the year 1902 only one year after the death of Knapp in December of 1901.

The dedication of the book reads,

"To the large and ever-growing Revivalist family, who sadly mourn the loss of their late teacher, "the Hero of Faith and Prayer," and to the world wide circle of "holiness people," from whose ranks has fallen a great leader and prince in Israel, this work is lovingly dedicated by their Friend and Brother."

By following the link below you can find the whole biography. You can also download it as a PDF or to read on an e-reader.

Here at Revival Kindlings we pray that God would raise up a generation of more princes in Israel like Martin Wells Knapp who will become heroes of faith and prayer in this generation!

Samuel Logan Brengle (1860-1936)

By following this link you can read freely text sermons and articles by the speaker Samuel Logan Brengle in text and pdf format. Samuel Logan Brengle was an American Methodist born in Indiana who joined the Salvation Army in the 1890s. He was mightily used of the Lord--even more so through his many books, which were chiefly written during a convalescence following being badly injured while street preaching. He was described by one observer as a kindly, literate and articulate man who left good memories with nearly everyone he met.

He described his experience as being a full immersion in the love of God. He would later write of the experience: I walked out over Boston Common before breakfast, weeping for joy and praising God. Oh, how I loved! In that hour I knew Jesus, and I loved Him till it seemed my heart would break with love. I was filled with love for all His creatures. I heard the little sparrows chattering; I loved them. I saw a little worm wriggling across my path; I stepped over it; I didn’t want to hurt any living thing. I loved the dogs, I loved the horses, I loved the little urchins on the street, I loved the strangers who hurried past me, I loved the heathen, I loved the whole world. This experience would become his life's focus as he taught and admonished believers to seek 'the blessing' on an international level.

Sanctification: The Life Side

"Sanctification means the impartation of the holy qualities of Jesus Christ in me. It is the gift of His patience, love, holiness, faith, purity, and godliness that is exhibited in and through every sanctified soul. Sanctification is not drawing from Jesus the power to be holy-it is drawing from Jesus the very holiness that was exhibited in Him, and that He now exhibits in me. Sanctification is an impartation, not an imitation. Imitation is something altogether different. The perfection of everything is in Jesus Christ, and the mystery of sanctification is that all the perfect qualities of Jesus are at my disposal. Consequently, I slowly but surely begin to live a life of inexpressible order, soundness, and holiness-"...kept by the power of God..." (1 Peter 1:5)."

Sanctification: The Death Side

"In the process of sanctification, the Spirit of God will strip me down until there is nothing left but myself, and that is the place of death. Am I willing to be myself and nothing more? Am I willing to have no friends, no father, no brother, and no self-interest, simply to be ready for death? That is the conditions required for sanctification. No wonder Jesus said, "I did not come to bring peace but a sword" (Matthew 10:34). This is where the battle comes, and where so many of us falter. We refuse to be identified with the death of Jesus Christ on this point. We say, "But this is so strict. Surely He does not require that of me." Our Lord is strict, and He does require that of us. Am I willing to reduce myself down to simply "me"? Am I determined enough to strip myself of all that my friends think of me, and all that I think of myself? Am I willing and determined to hand over my simple naked self to God? Once I am, He will immediately sanctify me completely, and my life will be free from being determined and persistent toward anything except God (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)."

"Four Hindrances to Joy" by Philipp Jakob Spener

  1. Unbelief. All sadness comes from a mode of unbelief or from the lack of a feeling of faith and the weakness that arises from this.
  2. A godless life. That brings an evil conscience and also sets joy aside. Where the Holy Spirit is not, there can be no joy, for he does not live with evil.
  3. The joys of the world hinder spiritual joy to the greatest degree and make minds incapable of it. Worldly joy is gross, spiritual joy is subtle. Worldly joy draws man into the flesh, spiritual joy lifts him. Worldly joy puts him ill at ease, spiritual joy gives him peace.
  4. Sorrow for earthly things and for things of the world which bring death. These are so far away from spiritual joy that in time they also make the heart incapable to receive it.
-Philipp Jakob Spener

A Divine Fullness

Heart holiness produces within the willing believer a Divine fullness. In Christ “dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:9) In Greek the word fullness is pleroma which can be translated as completion or filled up and unable to take anymore. God was pleased that in Christ “all the fullness should dwell” (Colossians 1:19) but it is the will of God to make the fullness available to believers through Christ as well. John makes this clear when he writes, “And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.” (John 1:16) God desires to fill every willing believer with His fullness! The Apostle Paul was filled with this fullness, he writes to the Church in Rome, “But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.” (Romans 15:29) Paul was not satisfied that only he was filled with this fullness, he prays for the Church of Ephesus, “…that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:19) Paul saw clearly that to lead believers into the fullness of the blessing was the purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ. For the Church itself is “His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1:23) In the Body of Christ God equips ministers with various gifts so those in the Church “all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:13) There is nothing greater than to be filled with the fullness of God and this fullness is the privilege of all who seek it. To those that have already been filled pray as John Fletcher prayed, “Lord, enlarge this vessel” that you may be filled with even more of His fullness.

Sanctification is the Will of God

"It is the will of God. "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication" (1 Thess. 4:3). Here is clearly declared: First, that sanctification is the will of God. Who then dare criticize it, or oppose it, or even be indifferent about it? Second, that it is God's remedy for fornication. Worldliness is spiritual fornication. Regeneration gives up the world; entire sanctification burns inbred sin with all its worldward bents out of the heart and imparts such a love for celestials as to make one loathe the insipid water from the stagnant pools of the world."

America's Forgotten Founding Father: Francis Asbury

The greatest Christian biography other than the Gospels that I have ever read is "American Saint: Francis Asbury & the Methodists" by John Wigger. It is a masterful work of Christian history that tells the epic story of the founder of American Methodism from his birth in England in 1745, his ministry under John Wesley as a circuit rider in England, his arrival in America in 1771, his hiding out during the Revolutionary War, and his ministry in America until his death in 1861. Wigger notes that Asbury was more recognized face-to-face than any other American of his day, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. There is a statue of Francis Asbury in Washington D.C. and the left side of the statues pedestal reads, "If you seek for the result of his labors you will find them in our Christian Civilization, his continuous journeying through cities, villages and settlements from 1771 to 1816, greatly promoted patriotism, education, morality and religion in the American Republic." This is a magisterial biography that tells the story of Asbury, a man who promoted the message of holiness in America perhaps more than any other in history. If you are interested in the rise of American Methodism, the American Methodist revivals, the beginning of the American Camp Meetings, and the awesome works of God in the founding years of the American Republic then buy and read this book. It will be a great blessing to you. Happy Fourth of July.

The Power of Pentecost

"We err in locating power only in gifts. The power of Pentecost is required not only for what we would do for others, but for what is needed to be done in ourselves...In the experience of Holiness, the Spirit abides to supply to the soul power: (1) of resistance, that we may withstand all evil forces and influences; (2) of performance, that we may fulfill all God's righteous will; (3) of endurance, that we may bear all the trials that are common to life, and all the afflictions that are incident to a faithful, fearless service of God."
